‘Wondrous Things’ – Inaugural Art Exhibition at The Brewhouse Theatre
The Brewhouse Theatre opened its doors on Tuesday 8th April with two shows – one in the auditorium and one in the foyer and bar areas. Wiveliscombe artist Annie Phillips has put together a feast of visual art showcasing the talents of up-and-coming local artists alongside some of the best established and respected artists this county has to offer.
The title refers to a famous quote: when archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922 Lord Caernarvon asked, “Can you see anything?” – to which Carter replied, “Yes – Wondrous Things!” Annie comments, “In essence this sums up my aspirations for the delights that lie in store for the people who eagerly anticipate the long awaited re-opening of The Brewhouse.
The overwhelming response of the Artists who submitted their works on short notice for this event is humbling, the quality and diversity of which sets a standard and show of commitment to all those people waiting in the wings to make this venture a success.”
A great cheer went up at the Brewhouse Theatre on Tuesday evening as Taunton Theatre Association got the news that their application to become a charity has been approved by the Charity Commission.
TTA Chair Val Hammond said, “I’m delighted that the Charities Commission has approved our application. We are now a fully registered charity, No 1156472. This is a great step, potentially improving our chances of raising funds from trusts restricted to charities, allowing us to receive gift aid and offering many other benefits.” Continue reading
