“A UNIQUE Christmas production of Hansel and Gretel heads Taunton’s way this Christmas” writes the Somerset County Gazette’s reporter Daisy Blacklock, in today’s weekly paper.

Taunton Theatre Association – the not for profit group who are working hard to secure the reopening of the Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre in Taunton, Somerset, were given a challenge by the Theatre Consultants working with Taunton Deane Borough Council when they were initially introduced in August. The challenge was taken on board and with the amazingly tenacious Beccy Armory (professional actress, founder member of the Taunton Theatre Association and now producer) took on the task. A script was written, local organisations approached and buried under a deluge of goodwill and offers the dream became a reality.

Beccy says “Hansel and Gretel came to me because it’s a fairytale – everyone loves that scene where the children come across the gingerbread cottage”The challenge was to create a production that could be performed without the benefit of stage, wings and tabs!

The specially written script takes the audience through a promenade performance around the beautifully restored Castle Green, culminating with the final scene in the Museum courtyard (but no more of this, or there won’t be any surprise). It will be a magical show, and just right to start your Christmas celebrations.

The show will be FREE and tickets will be available from November 15th at 9am to order online via http://www.tauntontheatre.org.uk.

Taunton Theatre Association would like to express their thanks to: Taunton Deane Borough Council for their support and financial assistance, Somerset Museum, Bright for lights, Liv’n Up for sound and technical support, DJ’s from OKOKO for providing a musical mash-up, Stagecoach choir, Niki Jenks School of Dance and ADK and CicCic for help with branding and design concepts. Of course we would not be here without the work done by Beccy and her team of helpers and of course our wonderful cast – all giving up their time to volunteer to offer Taunton a real treat this Christmastime.

Oh … and Knights Rest are offering a free hog roast to ticket holders at the end of every show! Free theatre and food … what could be better! Numbers are limited!

The auditions are nearly over, and rehearsals set to begin … let the magic commence.
